6th Grade
6th grade focus is on the basics- the elements of art and principles of design. We learn and practice how the elements and principles are used to plan for and organize a work of art. Students also work with a variety of mediums, learning appropriate use and care of materials. 6th grade art digs deep into art and the environment by looking at how artists reuse materials to create art and raise awareness of our environmental issues. This study culminates in the always popular "Trash Art" project!
7th Grade
7th grade focus is on building skills with a variety of art materials. We work on good drawing techniques for the human body while studying Ernie Barnes, a local artist hero! 7th grade begins thinking about art as a problem to be solved that may have many different answers.
8th Grade
8th grade art focuses on drawing and painting skills and techniques. We do some some sculpture too! Themes in 8th grade are self, identity and relationships.
